Outlast 2: How to Hide

How to Hide in Outlast 2

Recommended Videos

Running is very useful in Outlast 2, but there are some situations that don’t really facilitate the act of hightailing it out of there. Sometimes the best way to survive is to stay put. Just, you know, make sure it’s in place where you can’t be seen or you’ll end up someone’s victim. It’s a good thing that hiding is a mechanic built right into the game. Here’s how to do so.

To hide under something, such as a bed or a desk, you simply have to crouch (by pressing Circle/B/CTRL) then move towards the item. You’ll automatically duck lower if it’s a bed that you’re trying to get under and you’ll easily slop under desks.

Some other spots like closets or lockers allow you to hide inside. To do so, walk up and press Square/X/RMB to hop in and close the door behind you. You can peek out of these by holding square (which allows you to slightly open the door) and use the triggers to lean out and see if anything deadly is nearby. You can hide in barrels as well (though this sounds like an insane thing to do). It works just like the closets and lockers, except that you can peek using just the triggers. You do put yourself in a bit of a worse position, though, so keep that in mind.

You can also hide in water or tall grass by crouching in them. Do note that when crouching in water, you will have to eventually come up for air.

One thing you should definitely always be aware of when hiding in Outlast 2 is that if an enemy sees you while you’re doing so, it will drag you out forcefully and most likely murder you. Make sure to shake them off before ducking into a closet or under some soiled bed.
