How to Get Epona in Zelda Breath of the Wild
Just like with the Master Sword, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild just wouldn’t feel right without Epona, Link’s trusty steed in classics such as Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, and Twilight Princess. Epona can’t simply be unlocked in the game by just playing, though, you’ll need something from outside the game to make it happen: an amiibo.
Using Link’s amiibo (this video from Eurogamer shows a Super Smash Bros. Link being used for example) you can summon Epona into the world once. Once she’s in the game, she’s yours to keep until she perishes. She’s the most beautiful horse in the game (we may be a bit biased) and has the following stats:
- Max Bond
- Max Strength
- Max Stamina
- Max Speed
- Gentle Temperament
When it comes time to name Epona at a stable, the merchant gasps as they realize it’s the horse of legend and urges you to not change the name. It’s a pretty sweet addition for anyone who has an amiibo, and such a nice nod to the series.
