Zelda Breath of the Wild: How to Beat Thunderblight Ganon

Thunderblight Ganon – The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Thunderblight Ganon is the calamity’s form that you’ll have to face after completing the Divine Beast Vah Naboris puzzles in the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Like the puzzles, this boss is themed around electricity (if you couldn’t tell by its name), so you may want to invest in some food/elixirs that increase your electricity resistance.

You’ll also want some one-handed weapons so you can take advantage of using a shield. Bows are surprisingly not very useful in the fight against Thunderblight Ganon, so don’t worry if you’re short on arrows. And, for the final pieces of preparation, put on your strongest armor (no need to worry about temperature during the fight), and get some defense-increasing food/elixirs into your system.

The fight has two phases, with the first one being very straight forward. Thunderblight Ganon will rush towards Link for a melee attack. And when we say rush, we mean this boss moves faster than you can blink. Hold your shield up and this will mitigate all damage, then attack the beast quickly. It will take a few hits to break its shield, but once you do break it the boss will be stunned. Do as much damage during this time as you can and you may even knock Thunderblight Ganon down to deliver even more punishment. If the boss jumps into the air, move away to avoid any electricity, then rinse and repeat until phase two.

Phase two is tricky, but not difficult. Thunderblight Ganon will cover its weapon in electricity and kick off the phase with a powerful new ability. Instead of rushing you, it will float out of reach and send huge steel spikes into the ground. It will then send a bolt of electricity into each. You may notice that you can’t damage Thunderblight Ganon during this time no matter how many arrows you fire or weapons you throw. What you need to do is pick up one of those spikes with Magnesis, then hold it over Thunderblight Ganon’s head. When the boss zaps it, drop it onto the boss to deal a ton of damage and knock it out of the sky.

The rest of the fight plays out just like the first phase, only if you see the weapon sparking, dodge instead of blocking. It will knock your weapon and shield away if you block and leave you open to tons of damage. Otherwise, just chip away at Thunderblight Ganon. There’s a small chance that it may target you with a laser just like the Guardians do. If this happens, either freeze the boss with Stasis or hide behind a wall until it fires. Then continue on as normal until victory.

There you have it. You’ve defeated another The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild boss and have collected Urbosa’s Fury which summons lightning to damage enemies when you use a charge attack (hold Y).
