Valkyria Revolution, the new entry in the acclaimed strategy series, will launch on June 27 in North America, for both PS4 and PS Vita. Sega announced the date in a new post over on the PlayStation Blog, where they also shared a few details on the upcoming title.
While Valkyria Revolution does fall in the same series as Valkyria Chronicles, it’s more of a spinoff, taking place in a different world with an entirely new cast of characters, although it will have some returning elements. The battle system, however, will be completely different taking away the turn-based pace in favor of a more action-oriented system. There’s still plenty of strategy though, as you’ll need to manage unit formations and loadouts in real-time. Instead of the World War II aesthetic the original games went for, Revolution is inspired by the European industrial revolution. Here’s a quick description of the story from the PS Blog,
“But at its core, Valkyria Revolution is a very human story about war. The small independent kingdom of Jutland is suffocating from an economic blockade sanctioned by the tyrannical Ruzi Empire, and must resort to war in order to liberate itself and the surrounding lands from the Ruzi’s imperialist conquest.”
Additionally, Valkyria Revolution will have day one version called the “Vanargand Edition.” This will be available in limited quantities at launch, and for anyone that pre-orders the game. The Vanargand Edition comes packed with an exclusive metal pin, and a soundtrack selection of 12 songs from the game’s soundtrack, composed by Yasunori Mitsuda of Chrono Trigger fame.
Valkyria Revolution will be available on June 27 both physically and digitally on PS4, and only digitally on PS Vita.
