Pokemon GO: How to Get Shiny Pokemon

How to Get Shiny Pokemon in Pokemon GO

Recommended Videos

Pokemon GO is currently experiencing an event that increases the chance that players will run into water Pokemon. Turns out this wasn’t the only new thing that happened, though, as players have discovered that shiny Pokemon have made their way to the mobile game.

Shiny Pokemon are basically just the same as regular Pokemon, except they are a different color than normal and are extremely hard to find.

Currently, the only two shiny Pokemon in Pokemon GO so far are Magikarp and Gyarados. A shiny Gyarados will be hard find in the wild, but that’s because a normal Gyarados is just rare to appear in itself. Your best bet is to shoot for a shiny Magikarp which appear more often, especially with the current water event. Head over to your local hunting ground, find a PokeStop and set up shop with a lure. Sadly, the Pokemon does not appear shiny on the map, so you have to go for every Magikarp you see. This will also help you gain a lot of the candy needed to evolve your shiny Magikarp when the time comes.

Once you do capture a shiny Magikarp, you can either keep it and try to look for another, better Magikarp to evolve or evolve it into a shiny Gyarados right away if you have the candy. As of right now, it is not known if there will be more shiny versions coming soon, so you’ll have some time to go Magikarp hunting. If you manage to get a shiny Magikarp and a shiny Gyarados, then you’ll have all the available shiny versions in Pokemon GO.
