There are a lot of different stories that can be told in video games, but perhaps one of the most tragic and heartfelt was That Dragon Cancer. This exploration based adventure game focuses around the story of a young boy, Joel, who is struggling with cancer. Players take control of Joel’s parents in small vignettes around this harrowing journey.
During The Game Awards, it was announced that That Dragon Cancer won the Games For Impact Award. Other nominated titles were 1979 Revolution, Block’hood, Orwell, and Sea Hero Quest.
Accepting the award was designer Ryan Green who delivered one of the most emotional acceptance speeches in The Game Awards’ history. Not only did he thank his small team, but thanked his audience and Kickstarter supporters for making their dream a reality. Congratulations That Dragon Cancer, you more than earned this award.
That Dragon Cancer is currently available for both PC and Mac. Make sure to check back with us at Twinfinite for the latest news from The Game Awards.
