Nintendo has confirmed that they are partnering with Universal to open themed areas in three theme parks around the world.
Themed areas will be coming to Universal Studios Japan, Universal Orlando Resort, and Universal Studios Hollywood and the video game giants say that they “will be expansive, immersive and interactive. They will be highly themed and authentic environments filled with multiple attractions, shops and restaurants.”
The news was confirmed in a statement released by Nintendo in which they say: “Imagine the fun of stepping into a larger-than-life Nintendo adventure. Gigantic Piranha Plants spring to life. Question blocks, power-ups and more surround you. And Mario and all his friends are there to pull you into a brand-new world.”
Following the popularity of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter area at Universal Resort Orlando, Nintendo has teamed up with Universal to attempt to recreate that success with the worlds of Mario and Zelda. The aim of the areas is to make guests “feel as if they are playing inside their favorite games – this time in real life.”
Shigeru Miyamoto and Mark Woodbury of Universal Creative also shared early insights on the collaboration between Nintendo and Universal Parks & Resorts in a video of YouTube.
The three individual parks will announce what will be coming to their own areas in the near future. For Nintendo’s full statement see their website.
