How to Evolve Munchlax – Pokemon Sun and Moon

Recommended Videos

If you’re looking to evolve Munchlax into Snorlax in Pokemon Sun and Moon, you’ll have to invest a little effort. This Pokemon evolves through happiness, meaning it needs to be full of joy before evolving.

First off, it’s important to note that happiness (sometimes called Friendship) is a distinct mechanic, different from affection. Affection is obtained by winning battles with a Pokemon or interacting with it in Pokemon Refresh, and these actions will not raise happiness.

There are a few ways to raise happiness enough to evolve Munchlax, including walking a certain distance with your Pokemon or leveling it up. Additionally, feeding your Pokemon berries and malasada that it likes will raise its mood. There’s also a masseuse in the town that’s home to the game’s second kahuna that can increase happiness, and feeding your Pokemon Vitamins like Iron and Calcium will work as well.  Finally, having Munchlax hold a Soothe Bell (found on Route 3) will raise happiness. Make sure to avoid giving your Pokemon bitter foods/berries or letting it faint in battle, as these will decrease happiness.

Once Munchlax’s happiness is high enough (at a value of 220), it will evolve into Snorlax upon leveling up.

Oh, and in case you need to get a Munchlax, anyone who purchases either Sun or Moon before January 2017 can get one as a free Mystery Gift. Select Mystery Gift from the main menu and connect to the internet. It should find an available gift. Now head to a Pokemon Center in-game and find the delivery man in an orange shirt. He’ll have your Pokemon so long as you have an open spot in your party.

That’s all there is to evolving Munchlax into Snorlax. For more Sun and Moon tips, guides, and walkthroughs, be sure to check out our Ultimate Guide filled with everything you need to know.
