The first set of downloadable content for Gears of War 4 will release on November 1, developer The Coalition announced today. The DLC, containing two multiplayer maps, will be the first of free monthly map updates over the next year.
The two multiplayer maps, Checkout and Drydock, were first introduced in Gears of War 3 and have been updated for competitive multiplayer and Horde modes. The maps will first be available through a developer’s playlist of Dodgeball, Arms Race, and Horde modes only for Season Pass holders on November 1. The maps will then merge with other maps in the free public playlists for everyone on November 8.
While Gears of War 4 multiplayer maps will be free for everyone, buying the Season Pass or the Ultimate Edition grants the ability to play DLC maps in private matches permanently. The free DLC maps can be rotated in and out of public playlists. The developer has stated that 24 maps will be added post-launch with two maps releasing each month.
In addition, Gears of War 4 is celebrating Halloween this week with a new multiplayer playlist and a Halloween Elite Pack with a chance to receive Day of the Dead cosmetic skins. Pumpkin Ball, a variation of Dodgeball, reduces respawn and respawn protection times on five dark maps. The playlist grants bonus XP and every player character sports a pumpkin for a head.
