A lot of publishers would make you buy the remastered version of a game all over again (cough, cough, Square Enix), but it looks like 2K Games is taking the high road. If you own BioShock, BioShock 2 or the Minerva’s Den DLC for BioShock 2, you will receive remastered versions of those games for free.
If you already own any of the above on Steam, you will receive the remastered version of the game in your Steam library, where it will appear as a separate game. This rollout will begin on Sept. 15, at 3pm Pacific Time. The original version of the game will remain in your library.
Things are a little trickier if your game is not Steam-activated. To get your remastered version of BioShock, you will need to provide your Steam profile information as well as your proof of purchase to 2K support.
For BioShock 2, you can input the Games for Windows Live code on the game’s box into Steam to activate the game on Steam. Once that is done, you will receive a remastered version of the game, same as all the other users with Steam-activated copies.
For more information, check out the official update on Steam Community.
The remastered versions will also be available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and will be available as part of BioShock: The Collection, which releases on Sept. 13 in North America. While BioShock: Infinite is also included in the collection, its ‘remaster’ will be based on the PC version of the game. As a result, the game’s PC version will not be remastered.
