After nearly six years of PlayStation Plus, Sony is raising the price on its subscription-based online service for the first time in both the US and Canada next month. On Sept. 22, prices will see an increase across the available options. The new prices are as follows:
- One Year – $59.99 USD/$69.99 CAD
- Three Months – $24.99 USD/$29.99 CAD
- One Month – Raising to $11.99 CAD in Canada, yet the $9.99 price will remain the same in the US.
These new prices were provided through an update on the PlayStation Blog‘s reveal for August’s free games back in July. According to the updated blog post, this “new pricing reflects the current market conditions while enabling us to continue providing exceptional value to our members.” All of the same services that members have been enjoying (online play on PS4, cloud storage, discounts, and the Instant Game Collection) will remain the same.
This may be the first time that the price is increasing in the US and Canada, but it’s not the first time that Sony has upped the price on PlayStation Plus. Many other regions across the globe have seen the subscription price raise over the past couple of years including the UK , South Africa, Russia, and India. It seems as if Sony is trying to keep up with demands and agreements across each of its regions.
As a heads up, if you don’t want to pay for PS Plus at its new price, make sure to turn off auto-renewal in your account settings before your current subscription expires.
