Remedy Entertainment’s time-stopping adventure Quantum Break made its way to PC earlier this year, but remained exclusive to Windows Store. In an interesting twist, Microsoft has announced over the Xbox Wire that the game will now also be releasing on Steam. This is the first Steam major release from Microsoft Studios since Ori and the Blind Forest last year.
The official Steam page shows that the game will also be releasing on Windows 7. At present, the game is exclusive to Windows 10. The Windows 7 version of the game will be running DirectX 11, as DirectX 12 does not work on that operating system.
Apart from a digital release on Steam, the game will also be released at retail in a Special Edition, titled “Quantum Break: Timeless Collector’s Edition”. You’d think that with a name like that, it would include a watch or something. Instead, it includes the following:
- Premium packaging
- 5 Game Discs (one-time Steam key redemption required)
- Making of Blu-Ray
- Making of Book
- 1 Soundtrack CD (Audio-CD)
- 2 Posters
- Quickstart Guide
The Timeless Collector’s Edition will be available at $39.99 and will be published by Nordic Games. The Windows Store version of the game has also seen a price drop, down to $39.99 as well. Both the Timeless Collector’s Edition and the Steam digital release are scheduled to release on Sept. 14.
Microsoft releasing a high-profile game like Quantum Break on Valve’s marketplace is an interesting development, and points to the possibility of more Microsoft Studios games releasing on Steam in the future, such as Gears of War 4, or Scalebound. If this is part of a long-term Microsoft strategy, then the next game we can expect to hit Steam would be Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, which is currently exclusive to Windows Store and Xbox Store.
