Inventory Slots – No Man’s Sky
Inventory Slots are a valuable commodity in No Man’s Sky. The more that a player has, the more upgrades and cargo they can carry on each of their three pieces of gear. You may think you have enough room for what you need when you start, but soon you’ll realize that you will definitely need more. Here’s how to get them.
Multi-tool
You’re Multi-tool is your everything. Without it you can’t mine for resources, fight off sentinels, or scan your environment, so you want it to be at its very best. While the Multi-tool can’t carry anything cargo wise, it can have more inventory slots to place more upgrades. These upgrades can range from better energy management to high-powered beams that can even take down Sentinels.
The only way to get extra slots on your Multi-tool, though, is to exchange it for a new one. As you explore inside areas of No Man’s Sky, you’ll come across these containers that are usually found in bases. When approached, they reveal a Multi-tool inside that you have the option to purchase. These come with some pre-installed upgrades and some much-needed Inventory space. Just take a look at it, see if you can afford it, and purchase if you need it.
Starships
Starships are your means of getting around the seemingly endless universe of No Man’s Sky. They are also how you’ll carry the vast majority of your cargo thanks to their stacks going up to 500 as opposed to your Exosuits 250. Still, even with the bigger stacks, you’re going to need more room after all of the upgrades that you need, and the few extras that you just want.
Unfortunately, Starships are in the same boat as the Multi-tools for the most part when it comes to inventory slots. You’ll have to purchase or repair an entirely new ship if you want to up your space. Purchasing a new Starship from a fellow trader can prove to be a pricey endeavor, but repairing a crashed one isn’t much easier thanks to the need for a lot of resources and some crafting prowess. Still, if you want to carry more precious cargo you’re going to have to make some sacrifices. It’s all in the name of discovery, right?
Exosuits
Exosuits are a little better off than their Starship and Multi-tool peers. For starters, they don’t have to get rid of anything in order to grow. You can hold onto all of your precious cargo and upgrades as long as you want. To obtain more inventory slots for these, you simply have to locate and buy them.
Scattered around No Man’s Sky’s planets are these large dropped pods. They’re hard to miss so just fly around until you see one. Inside is an upgrade for your Exosuit that adds one slot. The first one is free, but the price rises with each new discovery. You’ll definitely want every single one you can get, though. I found six on one planet once, and that’s not a bad deal.
Once you get an Atlaspass, you’ll also find upgrades in Space Stations. They’ll be in the previously locked areas, so don’t forget to look.
