If you’ve been waiting for an excuse to jump back into DOOM’s multiplayer mode, you just got one. Publisher Bethesda Softworks announced today at its QuakeCon event that multiplayer DLC Unto the Evil is available for purchase.
The sudden release may catch some fans off-guard, since Bethesda had previously announced that Unto the Evil would drop this week, but had left its exact release date a mystery. So now that it’s here, the only remaining question is, what’s in it?
As seen in the above trailer, Unto the Evil contains three new “diverse” multiplayer maps for players to mix it up in: Offering, Cataclysm, and Ritual. It also includes a new gun (the UAC EMG Pistol), a new piece of equipment (the Kinetic Mine), and a new playable demon (the Harvester). Not stopping there, Bethesda and developer id Software also packed in new armor sets, patterns, colors, taunts, and hack modules.
There’s also a brand new system called “PartyPlay,” which lets players who don’t have Unto the Evil play on any of its new maps, so long as they’re partied up with someone who does own the DLC.
id and Bethesda are also kicking off another double experience weekend to promote the release. Play DOOM any time between now and August 8 at 12:00 pm EST to cash in on the extra XP.
