Disney’s 16-Bit Aladdin, The Lion King, and The Jungle Book Return on PC Today

Nostalgia time!

Someone must have used one of their three wishes, because Disney’s 16-bit adaptations of Aladdin, The Lion King, and The Jungle Book have been released on PC, Mac, and Linux platforms through GOG.com.

After two decades, these titles are back with all the original graphics, sounds, and gameplay intact. It’s as if they took the games straight out of the Disney Vault and handed you them. In fact, the animation team at Disney actually worked on the games through a technology called Digicel, which brought the drawn animated cels into game form.

These 16-bit releases follows a trend of recent releases of older titles from Disney’s catalog. First was Grim Fandango Remastered and Day of the Tentacle Remastered, developed by Double Fine from the LucasArts catalog. Later on, with the release of the Star Wars Battlefront and the special edition PS4, came Super Star Wars, Star Wars Bounty Hunter, Jedi Starfighter and Racer Revenge. Finally, after releasing three Star Wars games on GOG – X-Wing Special Edition, TIE Fighter Special Edition, and Rogue Squadron – Disney has decided to bring back these 16-bit classics as well.

And for those who are wondering, it is the Sega Genesis version of Aladdin, not the Super Nintendo’s. All three games are available now for $19.99 altogether or $9.99 separately on GOG.com. There is currently a discount at 33% off for all three or 10% off one title until August 8th.
