Do you remember Vanquish? That short, but immensely sweet arcade shooter that helped Platinum Games establish their undisputed dominion over modern third-person hack ‘n’ slash titles? Despite its great approval and success in the eyes of critics, it sold poorly and never made its way to PC.
However, it would seem that this may yet change if Platinum Games’ co-founder is a source to go by. Asushi Inaba hinted at the game’s potential PC release during an interview with Kotaku, where he was asked whether there’s a chance for Vanquish to ever get a PC release.
“(smiling) Hrm. I wonder… If you stop recording, I can talk about that,” said Inaba.
This sounds ominously positive when you consider the context, where Inaba could have easily shut the interviewer’s question down. You know how they say – where there’s smoke, there’s fire; Platinum could very well be working on a re-release of their cult classic, and with their relatively newfound fame, Vanquish may finally get the spot that it deserves. Additionally, keep in mind that Sega has been bringing its older repertoire of console exclusives to PC as of late, like Valkyria Chronicles, for example.
While this is little to go on, rest assured that more information will surely come soon, and if you were a fan of the rather unique style of gameplay Vanquish nurtured, but never got around to playing it, this may be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.
