Civilization VI: First Look at the Teamwork-Focused Egypt

With Cleopatra at the helm, Egypt looks to be a formidable world power in any Civilization VI game this fall. Famous for her romantic affairs with Julius Caesar and Mark Antony, Cleopatra’s propensity for forging alliances is built directly into her civilization.

Egypt is a wonder-based civ, meant to work with others for the betterment of all. While Egypt can build districts and wonders faster if they are located on rivers, Egypt also receives a sizable bonus to trade. Trade routes from Egypt give players more gold, and trade routes coming into Egypt do the same while giving the originator more food. This is meant to make Egypt a central player in any world economy.

The civ’s unique unit, the Maryannu Chariot Archer, is a strong early game unit that receives bonuses to movement when it starts on open terrain. “Horses and chariots posed maintenance complications, especially during longer campaigns, but the Maryannu were ultimately one of the more elite units in the pharaoh’s army,” 2K explains in a post on Steam.

And Egypt’s unique improvement is none other than the Sphinx. Providing faith and culture, the Sphinx gets bonuses when next to a wonder.”The sphinx was a common theme for pharaohs obsessed with strength, eternity and wisdom…”
