Square Enix held a stage demo for Final Fantasy XV today at E3, where the game’s director Hajime Tabata detailed a few new things. Tabata separated the game into three essential tenets; road trip, adventure and combat. The first part of the presentation detailed some of the locales Noctis and company can visit and how the road trip portion of the game functions, while the second half focused entirely on combat.

During this section, Tabata announced something called “Wait Mode,” a feature that can be enabled through the options menu that lets players slow down the action and plan their next move. Essentially when a player isn’t putting in any commands on the controller, the game will freeze and let players think about what they want to do next. Tabata explained this option in contrast to the action focused combat, by comparing it to the “active” and “wait” options of the active time battle system in older Final Fantasy games. The feature can be turned on and off at will during the game apparently. Square Enix has even dedicated a video to describing the feature, which you can view down below.

Final Fantasy XV launches on September 30, for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Square Enix announced a tie-in game called A King’s Tale: Final Fantasy XV, a beat-em-up retro game revolving around a bedtime story King Regis tells to Noctis. The North American box art for the game was also revealed today.
