How to Play the Hillbilly Killer in Dead by Daylight

Dead by Daylight, Hillbilly Abilities

The Hillbilly is the brute strength enforcer killer in Dead by Daylight. They rely more on raw physical prowess when chasing down survivors instead of predicting movements and sneaking around. The Hillbilly’s special ability is the Chainsaw. With this, the Hillbilly is able to go full sprint and charge in a forward direction instantly sending any hit survivor into a dying state. You still have to press the attack button while dashing, so timing is very important. You are allowed a slight degree of movement and can keep the charge going surprisingly long.

There are two downsides to the Chainsaw, the first being its wind-up time. When activating the Chainsaw, a cast bar will appear and you’ll have to wait until it finishes before rushing after any escaping survivor. This means that if a survivor spots you early enough, they’ll have enough time to find cover which will end your dash and allow them to escape. Finding the Hillbilly charging the Chainsaw isn’t difficult either due to its second downside. It makes a ton of noise. In activating the Chainsaw, it lets out a loud audio cue to everyone in the area allowing the survivors to seek proper shelter if they have an idea of which direction your coming from.

Dead by Daylight, Hillbilly Loadout

Since the Hillbilly in Dead by Daylight is all about the chase, the killer’s perks serve to strengthen their fortitude and overall tankiness. The Enduring perk will greatly increase the Hillbilly’s stun recovery time which makes getting struck by a barricade much less of a problem. The Hillbilly can also reduce the effectiveness of flashlights with the Lightborn perk which increases resistance to and recovery time of the blind effect, however as a cost your field of vision will be reduced. Combine these with the Unrelenting, Deerstalker, and Whispers perks and you’ll be a glorified unstoppable killing machine.

The Hillbilly has a very interesting array of add-ons for the Chainsaw which serve to cause detrimental effects to any survivor hit by it. Grisly Chains and Rusted Chains will reduce a survivor’s repair speed and decrease their recovery time respectively, while the Begrimed Chains will institute both effects with a single add-on. The Spiked Boots is another good addition as it allows the Hillbilly a greater degree of steering control while charging with the Chainsaw. Finally, the Primer Bulb reduces the charge time for the Chainsaw, allowing the Hillbilly to enter the fray at a much quicker rate.

Tactics

Dead by Daylight, Hillbilly Gotcha

The Hillbilly can be simple enough to play in Dead by Daylight, however mastering the mobile killer is certainly very difficult. Timing is very important for the Hillbilly. Be sure to charge your Chainsaw before granting the survivors line-of-sight to you. This way you’ll be able to turn the corner and immediately go full sprint bringing one of them down quickly. The Chainsaw is also a useful tool for getting around the map as your movement speed while charging is much faster than simply walking around, just be sure not to hit any walls accidentally or you’ll suffer a short recovery time. The Chainsaw can also break barricades faster, especially while charging so use that to your advantage. Less barricades around the map means less avenues for a survivor’s escape.

A strong tactic for the Hillbilly to employ is to leave your prey dying on the ground instead of simply meat hooking them. Doing this allows the killer to bait other survivors into helping their teammates. If a survivor takes the bait, simply rev up your Chainsaw and bring another foolish teen down. You can even pick up a dying survivor and drop them in a more favorable location with spots for you to hide. The Hillbilly is a very weak tracker and as such needs to rely on speed when obtaining map control. Dash from generator to generator, quickly peeking to see if anyone is repairing them and keep note of where each chest is on the map. Try to bring survivors down as close to the basement as possible as that is the single best place to meat hook one. And definitely do not be afraid to chase.
