Fallout 4’s second DLC, Wasteland Workshop, comes just one month after the Automatron DLC wowed us with its great new additions to the already fantastic base game. Wasteland Workshop offers a different style of content, this time giving players plenty of more options to renovate and upgrade their settlements, capture creatures, and have them battle to the death.
There are a lot of neat little features added in with Wasteland Workshop, but many of them could potentially be overlooked.
Can You Play If You Just Got the Game?
First off, you don’t need to worry about not being able to enjoy this new bout of content if you’ve just bought the game. Wasteland Workshop focuses on bringing new options and features to the settlement part of Fallout 4, and so there are no quests, enemies to face off against, or anything else that might impede your enjoyment if you’ve only just picked up the game.
What you may find if you’re new, however, is that you may not have many of the crafting materials required to create many new items in your settlement. You’ll want to make sure to go searching the wasteland and picking up anything and everything that you see. Almost everything will come in handy one way or another.
New Crafting Items
Wasteland Workshop unlocks a whole ton of new items to spruce up your settlement with. From buses to being able to stuff a Deathclaw and have it propped up in your settlement. With a pretty vast amount of items coming in the DLC, there should be something here to keep everyone happy.
If you’ve been into the settlement building aspect of Fallout 4 already, then Wasteland Workshop is going to give you plenty more toys to play with to further your enjoyment. If you’re not really into the settlement building aspect and prefer the more traditional Fallout experience, however, you may find that some of the new items and the features that they lead into may peak your interest.
Capture Wasteland Creatures
What Wasteland Workshop does bring to Fallout 4, however, is the pretty cool ability to be able to capture creatures of the Wasteland. While there are the obvious inclusions of Deathclaws, Mirelurks, and Yao Guai, you can capture rather less dangerous creatures such as cats and dogs for your settlement, too.
In order to capture these creatures, you’ll need something to house them in. Wasteland Workshop brings with it a whole variety of different sized cages, each one specific for the animal you’re attempting to catch. You build these at your settlements and then play the waiting game. The fun doesn’t just stop when you capture the creatures, though, there’s still one last part to Wasteland Workshop that might interest you.
Have Them Face-Off Against One Another
Wasteland Workshop not only allows you to capture animals in these cages, but also pit them against one another in an arena that you can build and fully customize with the items at your disposal. Have you ever wondered if a Yao Guai would stand a chance against a Deathclaw? Or maybe whether a Super Mutant could take down a couple of Gunners? If you’ve captured them then you can put them in your arena and have them battle to the death.
Wasteland Workshop also includes a Beta Wave Emitter and a Quitting Time Siren in order to get both your creatures and settlers calmed down when the fun comes to an end. After all, you don’t want a Deathclaw going on a rampage through your settlement… or do you?
That’s about everything that comes as part of the Wasteland Workshop DLC. What animals will you be attempting to capture first? Let us know down in the comments below.
