The Witcher 3 Has Shipped Nearly 10 Million

It sold extremely well.

The Witcher 3 took home several accolades in 2015, including Game of the Year from several outlets. It’s vast world, compelling narrative, and interesting characters all together created one of the greatest games to be released on the 8th generation consoles, thus far. While it has been known for quite some time that the game was wildly successful, there are now numbers to back up the claims.

According to a recent report published today by CD Projekt Red, The Witcher 3 has shipped nearly 10 million copies since it launched in May 2015, accounting for nearly half of the overall units sold in the trilogy.

“In these 20 million units sold, The Witcher 3 constitutes almost 10 million,” said CD Projekt Red CEO, Adam Kicinski.

In 2015, CD Projekt Red generated 798 million PLN in revenue (about 206 million USD), and 342.4 million PLN in profits (just over 88 million USD), thanks mainly to the success of the third installment in The Witcher trilogy.

The report also indicated that The Witcher 3 received “over 800 awards, including 250 Game of the Year awards, while the Studio itself picked up over 30 global Developer of the Year trophies.”

Overall, the company saw about an 830% growth in revenue from 2014 (96 million PLN/24.8 million USD) to 2015 (798 million PLN/206 million USD), and 3600% growth in net profits from 2014 (9.5 million PLN/2.5 million USD) to 2015 (342.4 million PLN/88 million USD).

In layman’s terms, 2015 was very good to CD Projekt Red and The Witcher franchise.

The Witcher 3 has already received its first major expansion, Hearts of Stone, in October, and is expected to receive the second expansion, Blood and Wine some time in 2016.
