Microsoft’s HoloLens set the gaming world on fire at last year’s E3 conference, and now pre-orders are open for potential augmented reality developers.
Today, Microsoft announced in a post on the Windows Blog the HoloLens Development Edition. The Development Edition is a dev kit for those who are interested in developing an application or program for use with the HoloLens, giving them some time to get to grips with the hotly anticipated device before it releases to consumers.
If you’re a developer interested in one of the HoloLens Development Edition’s you can now pre-order for $3000. The kit will include the headset device, a number of tutorial videos to help you get to grips with the tech, and some guides to help you in creating your own HoloLens- compatible product. It will also include a clicker for interacting with the device, a carrying case, microfiber cloth, chargers and a Micro-USB 2.0 cable.
You’ll also get some mini-games to try out on your new purchase, too. A shooting game called RoboRaid, Fragments which is an AR crime drama, and Young Conker, an AR platforming title from Rare’s Conker series.
In the post, Microsoft also revealed that the first wave of HoloLens Development Edition pre-orders will start shipping on March 30th, 2016. Once all of this first wave of devices has been released, the company will look at accepting more applications to purchase the development kit, depending on demand and, of course, availability.
In order to be eligible to apply for a pre-order, you must be a member of Microsoft’s Insider program and a working developer within the US and Canada where the HoloLens “will first be available.” Sorry everyone else looks like you’ll just have to hold tight for now.
