Star Wars Xbox 360
What better way to show off your love for Star Wars than having a console that resembles everyone’s favorite robotic duo. The console itself bears detailing of R2D2 while the gold controller takes the form of C3P0’s shiny body, complete with loose wires hanging out the bottom. When powering on and hitting the eject button, the console comes to life with R2D2 sound effects making you feel like you have your very own droid sat in your living room.
Oh, and to top it off, when you open the disc tray you’ll see one of the most iconic lines from Star Wars inscribed into it, “Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi, you’re my only hope.” Nice little touch.
Pikachu Nintendo 64
The Nintendo 64 was around when Pokémon was at its very peak. Nothing could stop Pikachu and the rest of the cuddly creatures, so it really made sense that Nintendo would release a limited edition console celebrating the release of Hey You, Pikachu. With a rare blue and yellow color scheme, a Pokéball for the power button, and a Pikachu with light up cheeks sitting on the top, the console was an absolute must have for fans back in the day.
Now these systems are pretty hard to come by and pretty expensive to try and buy online. The game may not have been great, but the limited edition console will always go down in history as one of the greats.
Gears of War 3 Xbox 360
The Gears of War 3 limited edition Xbox 360 offered players an opportunity to upgrade to a larger 320GB hard drive, get an extra controller (both of which had the twisty D-pad) and have it all designed with an awesome Gears of War Crimson logo design.
The console, like all of the limited edition Xbox 360 slim consoles, also had unique sounds when powering on the console and opening the disc tray. It was a nice little way to make each individual console that bit more special than the standard machines.
Star Wars PS4
The limited edition Star Wars PS4 was pretty divisive with fans when it released last year. However, we feel it’s a pretty fitting tribute to one of the galaxies most evil and notorious villains. Oh, and Vader isn’t just chilling on just a normal black background, the entire top side of the console is covered with the words “Star Wars” for added effect.
It would be a sin to not mention the controller here. The Dualshock 4 features the same repeated “Star Wars” design on the touchpad and has a color scheme that takes inspiration from the Sith lord’s iconic suit. If you’re not a fan of the console but like the controller, you can still pick one up separately if you’re lucky.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain PS4
The Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain limited edition PlayStation 4 is nothing short of beautiful. Repping the same red and gold color scheme as Snake’s bionic arm in the game, the console is the perfect addition to any Metal Gear Solid fan’s living room.
The controller was given a metallic grey finish, resembling the handgun of Snake, with the directional arrows on the D-pad receiving a little splash of red to accentuate them a little. Both the console and the controller also feature the unit emblem of Diamond Dogs. At least your friends and family will know where your allegiances lie.
Destiny: The Taken King PS4
2015 was a big year for limited edition PS4’s, and Destiny: The Taken King’s limited console was no slouch either. Back when Destiny first launched it was released alongside a plain white PS4 that was the first variation in the console’s design. The release of The Taken King expansion led to a reimagining of the white console, with the console getting covered in a galaxy map and then topped off with the Guardian emblem and Destiny logo in gold.
While the console may only be the 500GB model, it’s still one of the nicest looking limited edition consoles still available on the market. If you’re a Guardian still searching for the right PlayStation 4, this might be the perfect choice for you.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3DS
There has been a few limited edition Legend of Zelda 3DS’ now. There was a 3DS XL to celebrate A Link Between Worlds, a New 3DS XL that launched alongside Majora’s Mask, and this beauty right here. With a much more subtle design than those that would follow, the original 3DS to celebrate the launch of Ocarina of Time 3D was a great way to let all other gamers know you were a die-hard fan.
With a Tri-Force sitting in the middle and a classic Legend of Zelda border design around the side in gold, the handheld looked classy and rare enough to turn heads, without being too in your face about it. We’d also like to give an honorable mention to the Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD limited edition Wii U for its beautiful gamepad that seems to have taken a lot of inspiration from this 3DS design. Halo 4 Xbox 360
The Xbox 360 slim was the PlayStation 4 of the last generation, receiving a number of limited edition designs. In order to celebrate the release of Halo 4 on the console back in 2012, Microsoft released this clear and reflective cased beauty alongside the release of the game. It came complete with a 320GB hard drive, custom Halo sounds, two controllers, and blue LED’s on both the console and the two controllers that came included.
It’s safe to say this is one of the nicest Xbox 360 limited edition consoles that got released and was the dream console back in the day for many Halo fans. If you’re an avid collector of limited edition consoles, you can probably still find some of these for a pretty good price on the likes of eBay or Amazon.
20th Anniversary PS4
Possibly one of, if not the, rarest consoles on our list, the 20th anniversary PlayStation 4 wowed fans when it was revealed last year. It was released to celebrate the 20th anniversary of PlayStation. The limited edition PS4 reps the classic grey color and multi-colored PlayStation logo just like the original console. The matte side of the top of the console also has the button design with the number 2 added in there to give a quick nod to the 20th anniversary of PlayStation.
If you were thinking of getting your hands on one of these, you’re probably way outta luck. There were only 12,300 of these beauties made, and in the bottom right corner of the console in the image above, each system was labelled with its unique number. The console also came with a matching grey controller so it all looks like one pretty package.
Tales of Xilia PS3
Rounding off our list is one of the many consoles that is only available in Japan. This Tales of Xillia PlayStation 3 is nothing short of beautiful. The gold and red design on the traditional black color of the PlayStation 3 is a great way to show your love for the ‘Tales of’ series and is one of the few limited edition PS3’s that hit the market. The console had a 160GB hard drive for storing all your files and came with one controller, although this lacked any classy design like the console received.
Unfortunately, these seem to be near impossible to find now, probably due to their limited territorial release. We can only dream of getting more consoles in the future that look this good, but for now, we can dream.
