Star Wars: The Force Awakens is breaking box office records every single day. Box Office Mojo has reported that it has today passed Titanic to become the second highest grossing film of all time in the U.S. The film took an estimated $88.3 million this weekend, making it a total of $740.2 million since its release, leaving Episode VII behind only Avatar in the domestic all time chart.
The Force Awakens has also passed $700 million in record time, making in 16 days the same as Avatar did in 72. It has also passed $1 billion worldwide in just 12 days, a day less than the previous record that was made earlier this year by Jurassic World. Its worldwide total now stands at $1.51 billion which makes it sixth in the all time rankings. However, it is likely to be in the top three in a few days.
The Force Awakens has broken all the records without the benefit of a release in China, one of the biggest markets in the world. Once it releases there it will probably race towards Avatar’s box office record of $2.788 billion.
