At today’s Television Critic’s Association winter press tour, HBO announced the release date of the 6th season of Game of Thrones. The new season of the hit TV show will premiere on Sunday, April 24th at 9pm ET/PT.
The source material, George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series, has almost completely been exhausted at this point, as the author has yet to complete his final two installments in the series. What this means for season six is that we’ll be learning the fates of some characters for the first time. TV show-watchers are basically completely caught up to book readers, and with everyone on the same playing field, reactions to must-see moments will be shared among all for the first time ever.
Last season (as well as the last book) ended with a shocking moment that fans have been waiting for either months or years to feel the repercussions of – and anticipation has been growing strong. But, HBO has remained unbowed, unbent, unbroken in revealing any spoilers for the upcoming season, even with fans promising to bring fire and blood if information wasn’t revealed soon. But HBO upheld their family, duty, and honor and remained as high as honor by not budging.
Are you excited for the next season, or have you had your Game of Thrones fill? What’s your favorite GOT season? And when do you think we’ll finally get book 6, the Winds of Winter? Let us know in the comments below!
