If you just couldn’t stop seeing urine everywhere in Deus Ex Human Revolution, Eidos Montreal guarantees that its successor, Mankind Divided, will feature far less Bear Grylls-yellow.
Jonathan Jacques-Belletete, Executive Art Director on Mankind Divided, recently spoke to OXM on color palettes for both Deus Ex games, and how their respective hues reflect their core themes in past and upcoming titles:
“So HR [Human Revolution] was all about the enlightenment era of Transhumanism, which is where our black and gold palette came from, right? It was because black and gold was very much like Renaissance paintings. Now the world is more afraid of Transhumanism – so our gold and black palette has taken a back step with it. The new order is this corporate feudalism thing, so now the influence is a lot more medieval – a lot more desaturated, with blues, greys and matte browns. Deus Ex Mankind Divided will be less piss-colored.”
You’ll have to wait a little longer for those corporate blues, greys and browns, though. Deus Ex Mankind Divided’s PC, PS4 and Xbox One release was just delayed a few months for more post-production “tuning, iterations and refinement.”
