Collectibles in games are fun, but the original Crackdown took it to a new level. There were 500 Agility Orbs scattered all around Pacific City, begging to be collected by the player. It was a self fulfilling prophecy; you collect Orbs to level up your Agility that way you could get more Orbs. Diabolical.
It’s just addicting running around Pacific City, building up your skill to run faster and jump higher so you can grab even more of them. Crackdown 2 introduced moving orbs that you had to catch either on foot or in a car (for Driving). It wasn’t entirely fun, so it’s thankfully not coming to Crackdown 3. Speaking at Gamescom, Reagent Games’ director Dave Jones was asked about the moving orbs:
“No, they’re not going to be back. I’m not going to do that. I was an interesting try, but for me, no, they will be static.”
That’s perfectly fine, since as stated above, the moving Orbs in the second game were not fun in the slightest. If anything, it made you want to stop collecting them. Here’s hoping they increase the number, though!
Crackdown 3 hits the Xbox One summer of next year.
