Can You Guess Which Game Critically Scored Higher?
As video game fans, we all like to think that we have the eye for good games. We know exactly what we like and can even recommend something good to our friends. But sometimes review scores don’t always match what we think, so let’s play a game. We’re going to pit two games against one another and you’re going to decide (without cheating) which has the higher Metacritic score.
Scores for games with platforms next to them are determined based on reviews solely for that platform. Multiplatform games will have the average of all scores for each platform if they have varied scores.
Arguably the two best games in the series, which do you think is sitting pretty at the top of Metacritic?
While Uncharted 4 brought along plenty of beauty and a deeper story, it’s just hard to combat the spectacle that is the second game in the series.
Bungie’s new IP and a brand new Call of Duty go head to head in the battle of new, current gen shooters.
Ghosts edged out Destiny (76) with a score of 78.
Red and blue are at each other’s throats again, but there can’t possibly be a winner, right?
This is most likely some sort of statistical blip. Perhaps more people reviewed the Omega Ruby version of the game or something along those lines. But, as it stands right now, Omega Ruby is sitting with an 83 on Metacritic while Alpha Sapphire hovers at an 82.
Two narrative heavy games on current gen face-off to see who reigns supreme in the story-telling arena.
While Quantic Dreams seems to have been suffering lately with its releases, Heavy Rain still remains one of the studio’s crown jewels with its PS4 Metacritic score of 78. Quantum Break is only slightly behind with a score of 77.
The best of the best in Nintendo brawling.
Both games are so good that critics just couldn’t pick a favorite. The Metacritic score for both the recent Wii U release as well as Melee sit at a highly respectable 92.
It can be easy to overlook classic shooters, but they helped shape some of the gaming scene today. We pit Far Cry’s island warfare against Deus Ex’s augmented approach.
Deus Ex uses its score augmentation to just edge out the wild nature of Far Cry by a single point. Deus Ex sits at a fairly high score of 89 on Metacritic.
The golden child of console FPSs and it’s younger sibling are often thought of as the premier classic shooters when it comes to playing somewhere other than a PC.
Rare must have learned a lot when they developed Goldeneye 007 because they managed to trump the beloved N64 title with their next shooter. While Bond is sitting at a 96, Dark is lounging somewhere with a 97 on Metacritic.
Stardew Valley was clearly inspired by Harvest Moon, so it makes one wonder which holds up the best.
This is probably not surprising to anyone who has actually played Stardew Valley. While Harvest Moon 64 was indeed fun, this latest PC title builds on it in many ways providing a whole city and underground area to interact with along with combat, business, and more. It sits a whole ten points higher than its competitor with a score of 88.

Can You Tell Which Game Is Rated Higher?

Uncharted 4 (PS4) vs. Uncharted 2 (PS3)
Arguably the two best games in the series, which do you think is sitting pretty at the top of Metacritic?
Winner: Uncharted 2
While Uncharted 4 brought along plenty of beauty and a deeper story, it's just hard to combat the spectacle that is the second game in the series. Still, both games sit on high scores with the latest entry holding a 93 and Uncharted 2 sitting on a 96.
Destiny vs. Call of Duty: Ghosts
Bungie's new IP and a brand new Call of Duty go head to head in the battle of new, current gen shooters.
Winner: Call of Duty: Ghosts
Ghosts edged out Destiny (76) with a score of 78. While Destiny definitely proved to have more longevity and has drastically improved over time, it just didn't fare as well as expected in the beginning. So much so that even the least liked recent entry to CoD managed to beat it out.
Pokemon Omega Ruby vs. Pokemon Alpha Sapphire
Red and blue are at each other's throats again, but there can't possibly be a winner, right?
Winner: Pokemon Omega Ruby
This is most likely some sort of statistical blip. Perhaps more people reviewed the Omega Ruby version of the game or something along those lines. But, as it stands right now, Omega Ruby is sitting with an 83 on Metacritic while Alpha Sapphire hovers at an 82.
Quantum Break (Xbox One) vs. Heavy Rain (PS4)
Two narrative heavy games on current gen face-off to see who reigns supreme in the storytelling arena.
Winner: Heavy Rain
While Quantic Dreams seems to have been suffering lately with its releases, Heavy Rain still remains one of the studio's crown jewels with its PS4 Metacritic score of 78. Quantum Break is only slightly behind with a score of 77.
Super Smash Bros for Wii U vs. Super Smash Bros. Melee
The best of the best in Nintendo brawling.
Winner: Tie!
Both games are so good that critics just couldn't pick a favorite. The Metacritic score for both the recent Wii U release as well as Melee sit at a highly respectable 92.
Far Cry (PC) vs. Deus Ex (PC)
It can be easy to overlook classic shooters, but they helped shape the gaming scene into what it is today. We pit Far Cry's island warfare against Deus Ex's augmented approach.
Winner: Deus Ex
Deus Ex uses its score augmentation to just edge out the wild nature of Far Cry by a single point. Deus Ex sits at a fairly high score of 89 on Metacritic.
Goldeneye 007 (N64) vs. Perfect Dark (N64)
The golden child of console FPSs and it's younger sibling are often thought of as the premier classic shooters when it comes to playing somewhere other than a PC.
Winner: Perfect Dark
Rare must have learned a lot when they developed Goldeneye 007 because they managed to trump the beloved N64 title with their next shooter. While Bond is sitting at a 96, Perfect Dark is lounging somewhere with a 97 on Metacritic.
Stardew Valley (PC) vs. Harvest Moon 64 (N64)
Stardew Valley was clearly inspired by Harvest Moon, so it makes one wonder which holds up the best.
Winner: Stardew Valley
This is probably not surprising to anyone who has actually played Stardew Valley. While Harvest Moon 64 was indeed fun, this latest PC title builds on it in many ways providing a whole city and an underground area to interact with, along with combat, business, and more. It sits a whole ten points higher than its competitor with a score of 88.
Ocarina of Time (N64) vs. Majora's Mask (N64)
As far as anyone is concerned, these are both the best that the Zelda series has to offer. But have you ever wondered which one is actually rated higher?
Winner: Ocarina of Time
Ocarina of Time on the N64 is just a juggernaut sitting at a score of 99 on Metacritic. While Majora's Mask holds a 95, a lofty goal for most studios, it just can't compete with its older sibling.
Dragon Age: Inquisition vs. Mass Effect 3
The third game in each series were both fun, but they weren't without their issues. But can you tell which game was more favored by critics?
Winner: Mass Effect 3
Mass Effect has an average score of 91.6 across its platforms while Inquisition holds an average of 86.3. Maybe that ending wasn't as big a deal as we thought.
Final Fantasy X (PS2) vs. Final Fantasy IX (PS1)
While many may feel that Final Fantasy has been struggling in recent years, there was a time when two amazing games were released back to back. Final Fantasy IX closed out a generation while X birthed a new one. But which reigns supreme?
Winner: Final Fantasy IX
Final Fantasy IX managed to hold on to its title with its rating of 94 on Metacritic. Final Fantasy X did help transform the series and bring it into a more modern age, which helped it earn a score of 92, but there's something about the PS1 classic that just can't be beat.
Team Fortress 2 vs. Overwatch
Come on, we have all been making the comparison.
Winner: Team Fortress 2
This may come as a surprise to only a very few of you, but the obvious influence of Overwatch is on top, but only by a lead of a single point. TF2 holds a Metacritic score of 92 while Blizzard's latest is cruising with a 91.
Metal Gear Solid (PS1) vs. Splinter Cell (Xbox)
Metal Gear Solid helped popularize stealth action gameplay, but Splinter Cell came along and tried to transform it. Both are highly respected for their methodical gameplay, but who holds the title for highest rated?
Winner: Metal Gear Solid
Kojima only knows one thing: winning. Metal Gear Solid on the PS1 holds a score of 94. But don't think Splinter Cell is trailing too far behind. With a respectable score of 91, Sam Fisher has carved out his own place in history.
Final Fantasy XIII vs. Final Fantasy XIII-2
Final Fantasy XIII is one of the best selling entries in the series, but it had more than its fair share of issues. Its sequel, however, was loved by many as it improved upon its predecessor in almost every way.
Winner: Final Fantasy XIII
Surprisingly enough the original game holds the top spot despite all of its issues. With a score of 83 on Metacritic, it sits 4 points ahead of its sequel which saw you jumping through time and utilizing monsters as party members.
South Park: The Stick of Truth vs. Kingdom Hearts (PS2)
South Park: The Stick of Truth surprised everyone when it turned out to be an absolutely amazing RPG experience laced with the best humor that the South Park series has to offer. On the other hand, you have Kingdom Hearts, a match made in heaven between Square Enix and Disney.
Winner: Tie!
Surprisingly enough, both games are tied on Metacritic, sitting at 85. That beautiful Disney game and the crass one which has you deal with talking poop and other things both manage to be very impressive experiences that you should absolutely check out.
