Far Cry 5: Can You Tame Animals?

Can You Tame Animals in Far Cry 5?

Recommended Videos

The wildlife has always been a pretty fundamental part of the Far Cry experience. Whether you needed to hunt down some boars to upgrade your gear, or just needed to avoid the pack of wolves that just wouldn’t leave you alone, they make the world feel truly alive, adding an additional layer of realism. Of course, these wild animals are dangerous, and the grizzly bears, skunks, and other creatures you’ll find in Far Cry 5’s Hope County are no different. That has some people wondering if you can tame animals in the game and have them do your bidding in battle for you.

Unfortunately, there’s no way you can straight-up tame a grizzly bear or other wild animals in Far Cry 5. However, there are a few things you can do with the wild animals (and some companions you can get, too).

First, it’s worth noting that you can use bait to lure predatory animals to your location. Throwing bait into the center of an enemy-occupied outpost can really kick up a storm and allows you to just pick off any straddlers that the beast can’t take care of.

There’s also a Perk you can unlock in Far Cry 5 called King of the Jungle which makes wild animals a little friendlier to you. This perk reduces animal attack damage, but also makes any predators prioritize nearby enemies as targets over you. Prey animals will flee less often from you, too, making it easier to get their pelts for challenges or quests as and when needed.

Finally, while these aren’t necessarily wild animals that you can tame, you will get some four-legged companions that can fight alongside you as part of the ‘Fangs for Hire’ feature in Far Cry 5. We’ve got guides on how to get Cheeseburger the bear, Boomer the dog, and Peaches the cougar, so be sure to check those out if the human companions just aren’t your cup of tea.

That’s all you need to know about taming the wild animals of Far Cry 5. Least you can have a cougar, bear, or dog rock up by your side anyway! For more on the game, be sure to check out our ever-expanding wiki.
