Lara's past looms large.

This year, Lara Croft gets another shot at big screen success with the release of a new Tomb Raider movie, starring Alicia Vikander as the legendary video game heroine. Today Tomb Raider got a second full-length trailer, and in it Lara Croft faces off not only against bad guys but her own past as well.

The latest trailer makes it clear that the film is mostly pulling inspiration from the 2013 Tomb Raider game from Crystal Dynamics. The death of Lara’s father, Richard Croft (Dominic West) loomed large in that game – it was the inspiration for her to pick up the adventurer’s mantle – and his memory still clearly weighs on Lara here. Walton Goggins’ Matthias Vogel, the villainous leader of Trinity (another name familiar to fans of the game), also has some connection to Lara’s father.

Much like the first trailer, there’s plenty of action here, much of it reminiscent of the game’s brutal, heart-clenching set pieces. Vikander definitely looks the part, and the trailer makes it clear that she’s a thrill-seeker even before she goes on her adventure.

Fans of the 2013 Tomb Raider reboot are sure to recognize a lot here. The pickaxe Lara uses to grab onto walls, the bow and arrow she uses to take down bad guys and even the ship wreck sequence are all elements of Crystal Dynamics’ game. But will these elements add up to a great action movie? Fans will have and more importantly general audiences will have to wait and see.

Tomb Raider is set to release on Mar. 16.
