How to Upgrade Siege Abilities in Shadow of War

Recommended Videos

Middle-earth: Shadow of War wants to give you a taste of the battles that Lord of the Rings has brought the world for years. With that in mind, attacking and defending fortresses are a regular part of the gameplay. You’ll have to do it several times in the story, and it’ll be a frequent part of your online gaming experience. You’re not just fighting with the force of your captains, though, you’ll also be able to upgrade your siege abilities to get an edge over the competition.

Whether you’re attacking or defending a fort in Shadow of War, the process to upgrade siege abilities is the same. Once you’re on the screen that shows you both armies and each of the captains hopping into the battle, you just need to hit the “Upgrade Siege Abilities” button (Square on PS4 and X on Xbox One). Next, if you want to open up a new slot for another captain, move down through those slots and hold down the purchase button. This will cost you silver, but it enables you to go into battle with another captain. Keep in mind with this that you won’t be able to reach your full potential until you reach a high enough level, as they’re locked for lower level Talions.

That’s not all you can upgrade, though! You can also select one of the options next to the captain slot, and each one has a different defense or attack option that bolsters your army. For example, you could upgrade a captain to have a swarm of spiders rolling with them. Each captain slot has three different abilities you can choose to upgrade. Each one costs silver, and I recommend choosing carefully and only purchasing one. You won’t be able to equip more than one for each captain, so buying all three abilities for each one is a major waste of money.

That’s all you need to know to upgrade siege abilities in Shadow of War. For more on Shadow of War, be sure to check out our wiki.
