Oxenfree, the popular supernatural adventure indie title, has finally gotten a release date on Nintendo Switch. The game will officially be hitting Nintendo’s handheld hybrid on October 6, just over a week away. Developer Night School Studio had previously teased the game before, but made the official announcement today over Twitter.
Oxenfree is inspired by the classic teen coming of age movies and follows a group of teenagers partying on an abandoned island, who stumble upon a dangerous supernatural threat. The game plays out in 2.5D, and opts for a completely seamless experience that uses “walk and talk.” This means that there aren’t any cutscenes in the game, but rather speech bubbles appear over the head of Alex, the protagonist, that you can choose from. There’s also some classic adventure game mechanics like being able to interact with objects, and solving puzzles, this time by matching radio frequencies on your walkie talkie. Oxenfree was fairly well received by critics and fans, sitting at roughly and 80 on Metacritic currently.
Oxenfree will hit Switch on October 6. Make sure to take a look at the short trailer shown off today down below.
