Dx2 Shin Megami Tensei: Liberation Press Turn Battles Detailed, Protagonist Introduced

MegaTen faithful will be happy.

Weekly Famitsu’s most recent issue has published details on the forthcoming Dx2 Shin Megami Tensei: Liberation, which is the latest entry in the long-running series, headed for smartphones. The magazine has revealed several new piece of information about the game, most of which revolve around the storyline and some of the mechanics players can expect to see in-game.

The protagonist will be summoning demons via their smartphone with the “Devil Downloader” app, which ties into the game’s name: Dx2, and will be part of the Liberators organization that’s charged with keeping the world safe. There’ll be a scuffle between members of the group, however, whose hideout is located in Akihabara. You’ll be able to fuse demons, power them up, pick up items, and do more item management-styled actions there.

Demons will get 3D character models, much like the rest of the games in the series, and negotiation and skill inheritance will be a major part of grooming the demons to go to battle for you. The Press Turn battle system will return this time as well, which incorporates finding your enemy’s weakness and receiving additional actions and turns by exploiting it, just like you’ll lose turns and actions if you end up using an ability they’re resistant to.

There’s more information coming about Dx2 Shin Megami Tensei: Liberation later this month during Tokyo Game Show 2017, so stay tuned.
