Sega has announced an upcoming remake of the original Yakuza 2 as Yakuza: Kiwami 2 for PlayStation 4, scheduled for launch in Japan on December 7.
The remake will utilize the Dragon Engine, used in Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, and it’ll come with an additional Truth of Goro Majima scenario where you’ll be able to take up the mantle of the unhinged Goro Majima. There’s a whole wealth of new content as well, in addition to new voice actors and the Japanese metal band SiM taking on the theme song.
There’s also a limited edition bundle in Japan, which will come with a 3-disc “Kiwami” CD set, business cards, DLC, and the game of course, as well as special packaging. Even cooler is the special Yakuza: Kiwami 2 Edition PlayStation 4, which is available atlaunch in both Jet Black and Glacier White colors. Both systems will be available when Yakuza: Kiwami 2 launches this year.
Right now there’s no official word on an English localization, but hopefully it comes to pass with the success of the Yakuza series. In a perfect world, we’d have remakes of each one. Maybe that’s going to happen. You never know!
