New Crash Bandicoot Level Was Removed From Original Because it Was Too Hard

Hard even by Crash standards.

The Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy is already making headlines for being more difficult than the original, but Sony isn’t content to stop there. Titled Stormy Ascent, this new level is set to challenge even expert Crash players.

The level was cut from the original release in 1996 because it was deemed to be too difficult. It was completely finished but the development team couldn’t figure out how to reduce its difficulty before the game’s launch, so it was scrapped. But the data was still on the disc and tech savvy players could hack the game to access the additional challenge.

The level is an upwards climb through a typhoon, with platforms spinning and blades whirring. It hasn’t been adjusted for difficulty, which means that it will likely be the toughest Crash level in the collection. Even veterans of the series may have trouble.
