In 2006, Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth marked Digimon’s first entry in the current gen of consoles. Receiving a warm reception, the game paved way for Digimon World: Next Order in Feb. 2017. An instalment of a separate series, the game also received generally positive reviews.
Eager for more, fans clamored around a rumor last week that Cyber Sleuth was receiving a direct sequel. Eventually, scans of an ad from the Japanese magazine V-jump all but confirmed the rumors. Today, Bandai Namco Entertainment officially confirmed a sequel. Titled Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth: Hacker’s Memory, the JRPG will come to Japan later this year, while making its way to the West in 2018. The game will be available both physically and digitally on PlayStation 4 while the PlayStation Vita gets a digital only treatment, much like the two other Digimon games.
Players will take on the role of a pre-made character this time, named Keisuke Amazawa. Keisuke is accused of a crime he didn’t commit and must prove his innocence. In the same vein as the previous instalment’s characters, he is a hacker. This time around, the three options for a starting Digimon appears to be Tentomon, Gostumon, and Betamon. No mention has been made as to whether the first Cyber Sleuth’s characters will make an appearance.
Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth: Hacker’s Memory will feature over 300 different Digimon to capture, train, and digivolve. Online battles will also be returning.
