How to Backstab – Nioh

Recommended Videos

In an unforgiving game like Nioh, you’ll need every advantage you can get. Sometimes, this means sneaking up on your enemies and stabbing them in the back for some extra damage. However, you won’t be able to backstab enemies right from the get-go in this game. While you can deal extra damage to a foe by hitting them from the side or the back, walking up to them and hitting the attack button doesn’t trigger any sort of backstab system.

Instead, players will be able to make use of a critical hit system of sorts. By draining your opponents of their Ki, they will be left staggered for a very short period of time. While this happens (you can tell by their Ki bar flashing red), you can go in and tap the triangle button to initiate a downward stab that deals quite a bit of damage to them. After performing this attack, your opponent will stand up again with their Ki restored, and you’ll have to repeat the process. Just like a normal backstab in any Souls game, William will be invulnerable while performing the special critical stab too.
