Rhianna Pratchett and Crystal Dynamics have officially announced that she is leaving to pursue other ventures outside of the Tomb Raider series. Pratchett has a long history in video games, and is most recently known for being the lead writer on Tomb Raider 2013 and Rise of The Tomb Raider. She was instrumental in creating the new version of Lara Croft that we know today. She’s also been a writer on games like Overlord, Heavenly Sword, and Mirror’s Edge.

Crystal Dynamics made the announcement over on the official Tomb Raider blog today with the following post,

“Crystal Dynamics and Rhianna Pratchett are announcing today that Rhianna is off to pursue new adventures separate from the Tomb Raider franchise. Rhianna was instrumental in helping us find Lara’s voice in the 2013 origin story, and through Rise of the Tomb Raider she shaped Lara into the evolving heroine we know today. The entire team thanks Rhianna for her dedication and tireless efforts on the games. Please join us in wishing Rhianna the absolute best in her next adventure.”

Pratchett confirmed the news on her Twitter account, which you can see below, and then proceeded to thank both Crystal Dynamics and the Tomb Raider Community.

Although another entry in the series hasn’t been confirmed, if Rise of the Tomb Raider’s ending is any indication, Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix have another title planned. Rise of the Tomb Raider is currently available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Good luck to Rhianna Pratchett and whatever project she’s headed to next.
