One of the highlights of Final Fantasy XV, other than the great characters and engaging combat, is seeing what delicious looking meals Ignis will cook up when the group makes camp for the night. Many have marveled at how good the food looks in these scenes and it turns out there is a good reason for this.
Speaking to Eater.com, the game’s director, Hajime Tabata, revealed that many of the recipes seen in-game were actually made by the team in order to make them look realistic. He went into more detail about the process saying, “In Japan, we have a term called ‘meshi-tero’ (an abbreviation of the Japanese-English combo phrase ‘Meshi (food) Terror’ and similar to the English term ‘food porn’), but that pretty much summed it up. We have to create truly delicious-looking food scenes similar to those that appear in movies and anime.”
The team’s work certainly paid off, resulting in some of the most detailed and realistic food the video games industry has ever seen. Each recipe is carefully detailed down to the way the light plays off the food.
