Recommended Videos

Holy moly, Dec. 6 is a big day for VR releases, and for good reason too. On that date the Oculus Rift system is releasing their new Touch controllers and a whole wave of launch games are releasing to accommodate its new hands-on approach to VR. Besides Gun Sight the first day in the month and a couple PSVR releases, the vast majority of the first two week in December cater directly to the Touch’s launch.

Some game’s in particular to check out are The Unspoken by Insomiac Games (Spyro the Dragon, Ratchet and Clank) that allows players to try out their hand in spell-casting in what it calls an “urban magic fight club,” as well as the anticipated Star Wars Battlefront Rogue One: X-Wing VR Mission that is a free DLC for owners of Star Wars Battlefront and places you in the cockpit of a Rebel ship to fight the Empire in an interactive dog-fight.

DECEMBER VR RELEASES – WEEKS THREE & FOUR (DEC. 15-31)

Much like last month, the second half of December is extremely lacking in confirmed releases as compared to the first. However, there are still a good number of VR titles that are slated to release in 2016 but have yet to receive a confirmed release date. Since 2017 is now just mere weeks away, we should expect them to drop sometime this month.

One TBA title to look out for is Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin for the PSVR. First shown at E3 2016, this latest installment in the Psychonauts series will bridge the gap between the Psychonauts and the yet to be released Psychonauts 2, and is in development by the same studio that created the franchise, Double Fine. Another promising title is Technolust, an interactive visual novel set in a cyberpunk, dystopian future.

Here is December, 2016’s confirmed VR list for weeks three and four:

  • Surrounded By Bugs – HTC Vive (Dec. 25)

The following titles are also due to release sometime in 2016 but have yet to receive a confirmed release date at the time of writing.

  • Dead Bug Creek – Oculus Rift/HTC Vive/PSVR (Late 2016)
  • Moonstrike VR – Oculus Rift/Touch (TBA, 2016)
  • Outrageous Grounds: The Maze, December – HTC Vive (“Christmas” 2016)
  • Pixel Ripped 1989 – Oculus Rift/HTC Vive (“2nd half of 2016”)
  • Pulsar Arena – Oculus Rift/Touch (TBA, 2016)
  • Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin – PSVR (2016)
  • Radial G – PSVR (Q4 2016)
  • Ripcoil – Oculus Rift/Touch (TBA, 2016)
  • ROM: Extraction – Oculus Rift/HTC Vive (Q4 2016)
  • Smashbox Arena – Oculus Rift/Touch/HTC Vive (December, 2016)
  • Technolust – Oculus Rift/Touch (TBA, 2016)
