Bethesda unveiled the first official gameplay trailer for Prey at QuakeCon 2016, and it’s full of life-threatening aliens of all sizes.
As a reimagining of the 2006 Prey IP, this new Prey is introducing more of a psychological story starring Morgan Yu, a human aboard the serene Talos 1 space station. Here, Morgan and his probably justified paranoia opens the footage with a warning about something in the black between the stars. “There’s something there. I know there is. I can’t see it, but it sees me. It sees… everything.”
Fast forward one year to 2035, and Morgan’s crazy talk is completely validated. The space station is teeming with hostile, shadowy aliens, and we see him shooting and slapping his way through them, trying to prevent a containment breach.
The trailer leans more towards narrative than gameplay, but we do get to see Morgan unload some guns and prepare to shoot needles into his own eye. Perhaps the star of the show, though, is a cute little shadow alien metamorphosing into an equally cute office chair at 0:55 in the video above. This little critter is called a Mimic, and Morgan can actually use their Mimic powers to turn into everyday objects – like coffee mugs – himself.
Prey is slated to release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2017.
