In an interview with IGN, Gotham’s executive producers Ken Woodruff and John Stephens opened up about some of the changes that will be coming to the series throughout its third season. From Poison Ivy’s age leap to the debut of Mad Hatter, here are 7 things we know about Gotham’s third season thus far.

Poison Ivy’s rapid aging explained
It has been confirmed that actress Maggie Geha will replace Clare Foley as Gotham’s interpretation of Poison Ivy. The thing is, however, that Foley is still in her early teens whereas Geha is closely approaching her thirties.
According to Stevens, one of Indian Hill’s escaped patients has the power to age someone rapidly simply by touching them. The patient only briefly touches Poison Ivy, causing her to grow around twenty years older.
This decision was made because the writers wanted to play around with Poison Ivy’s lore, but in order to do so, the character had to become a bit older.
“We’re not going to be aging Batman up anytime soon,” Stevens clearly stated, so Bruce Wayne becoming Batman is still a long way off. The only way this gifted patient will affect Bruce is through the non-romantic relationship that will unfold between Bruce and Ivy, with both parties influencing each other greatly as the season progresses.
“I don’t think we’ll see any super powers stuff. I think that would be way further down the line especially since this is an origin story show,” believes Maggie Geha. “So I think it’s going to be more about discovering how other people perceive her and what that means. A lot of people are focused on her sexuality. I think Ivy, in my opinion, doesn’t really feel sexual about anybody. I think if she notices this person is attracted to me, finds me appealing in a sexual way, I’m going to use that to my benefit. It’s more of a manipulative thing than anything.”
Alfred getting his penny’s worth
The butler deserves some love too, with Stevens confirming that Alfred Pennyworth will come across a love interest as the sixteen year old Bruce starts to develop a life separately from Alfred, only for another person tofill that gap in Alfred’s life.
“Suddenly someone enters his life who is connected to another character and Alfred is left with the idea of the possibility of another life there and it gives us a great storyline,” Stevens clarified.
Other love for Lee Thompkins
Deadpool’s girlfriend is going down another road, with Morena Baccarin’s doctor Lesie Thompkins finding a new love interest as well after leaving Jim Gordon whilst expecting a child. That love interest, however, is more of the criminal variety.
“He’s the scion of a particular Gotham crime family. I think hardcore fans their minds will immediately go to one person.” Stevens may be hinting towards Alberto Falcone, which could become an important factor in Thompkins’ life to turn her life into a more criminal-driven one.
Born on a Monday
Another villain that will make his live-action debut in Gotham is none other than the zombified Solomon Grundy. With Hugo Strange already having delved into reincarnation, Grundy will join the show later in Season 3.
Stevens also assured that Solomon Grundy will be a whole new character, and not a reanimation of a character that might be killed off earlier in this third season.
Killer Croc swimming in from the start
According to Stevens, we’ll see a prototype-version of Killer Croc at the start of this new season.
No details were given regarding the identity of the actor who will be portraying the monstrous Killer Croc, but Stevens stated “he’s not somebody famous right now.” It could be me, but it could also be you. What are you not telling us, dear reader?!
A Strange return
Doctor Hugo Strange, the big bad of Season 2 of Gotham, will make a brief appearance in the third season’s second episode.
Sadly, Hugo Strange’s story arc will be a much shorter and smaller one compared to last season, likely because actor B.D. Wong has a larger role to reprise on USA Network’s hit series Mr Robot.
Mad Hatter arriving just in time for tea
Originally intended to debut it Season 2, Mad Hatter will be played by The Walking Dead’s Benedict Samuel. This version of Jarvis Tetch, however, will not be severely influenced by his more menacing appearance in the Batman: Arkham video game series.
“I feel like the character’s an amalgam as much anything. There’s a little bit of the reality from the Brubaker books but also from the New 52 and the Snyder books. There’s some of that, too. From the Batman Mad series in terms of the emotional drive that he has. Benedict is definitely taller than most versions of Jervis but he plays it with a level of naturalistic insanity that I think, he really fills out that pantheon really, really well,” quoting Stevens.
