As new Pokemon GO enthusiasts venture into the wild while Niantic and The Pokemon Company work to bring the game to more regions, players find themselves battling against Gyms and catching everything in sight to boost their level. Your trainer level is important because it unlocks new items for you to use, tops off your supplies, and allows for you to catch much more powerful Pokemon.
Now that most players who’ve been able to get into Pokemon GO have gotten a feel for the game and its mechanics and are slowly climbing the ranks and gaining massive amounts of XP, many are starting to wonder if there is a level cap to the game and what it is. For those who don’t know what level cap means, it’s a limit to your character growth. Once a player hits that cap no more XP is gained for the trainer although you could still play the game.
For the time being, it seems that the soft cap is level 20, as no players have reported unlocking anything in Pokemon GO past that level. In other words, if you just want enough XP to unlock all of the different items currently in the game, you presently don’t need to go further than 20, although you’ll still earn a batch of rewards in the form of restocking your items if you continue to level up. In fact, leveling up is one of the best ways to grab some more of the rarer items like Ultra Balls.
The hard cap, meaning the absolute limit, is rumored to be 50 for now, yet no player has reported hitting this milestone just yet. It requires an extraordinary amount of experience, meaning a lot of legwork and play time. Time will tell if this level cap of 50 is indeed accurate. It will also be interesting to see if the cap will raise as Niantic and The Pokemon Company introduce new generations of Pokemon to Pokemon GO. We’ll just have to wait and see.
