Pokemon GO: How to Battle Your Own Pokemon at the Gym (to Train Them… Not for Evil)

Pokemon GO’s new battle feature is a little different to how it was in the standard Pokemon games. Despite this, it still acts as a great way to train up your Pokemon. Here’s how to fight your own Pokemon at the Gym to help train them up even more.

First things first, you need to make sure that the Gym you’re going to leave Pokemon at is controlled by your own team, either that or that you’ve just successfully taken over one formerly controlled by an opposing team. One this is done, all you have to do is leave your Pokemon there as you normally would (we’ve got a guide here if you need help with that). Then, simply challenge the Gym as you normally would. Pokemon GO will then choose your most powerful Pokemon and pit you against the Pokemon you’ve left at the Gym.

Then it’s time to do battle and start training up your Pokemon. That’s all there is to it. By battling your Pokemon that you leave at the Gym, you’ll not only earn XP for that Pokemon, but for those you choose to battle against them with, too.
