XCOM 2 Giving You Trouble? Here’s How to Fix Some Errors

The aliens aren't the only enemies out there.

XCOM 2 is finally available on PC after suffering a few delays. Thousands of players are already knee-deep in enemy gristle as they strategically maneuver around war-torn battlefields in the fight for humanity. Unfortunately, like many games in the modern age, XCOM 2 is not without its day one woes.

There are a few errors that are plaguing players out there, but thankfully there are some fixes that you can use to hopefully get back in the action.

Error Code Fixes:

Error Code 15 – When this error arises, open CMD and type in: netsh winsock reset catalog. After doing so, restart your computer and the game should run.

Error Code 41 – This particular error is potentially caused by your Anti-virus. Disabling these programs should enable normal play, just remember to reactivate them when you’re done.

Crash Fixes:

Crash after Geoscope mission –  Some players are experiencing a crash after the first two missions. The game freezes and nothing can be done. When this happens, restart the game and load an auto-save within the last mission. Make your way to the end of the mission again and you should be fine.

Crash on Startup/Freeze on Startup – There can be many causes for this issue, but one of the most common involves a driver conflict. To remedy this problem, just make sure that all of your drivers are updated to the latest version. That should fix the issue for most people suffering with XCOM 2 startup problems.

Other Fixes:

Controller just isn’t working – XCOM 2 has limited controller support, but it does support them. That doesn’t mean you won’t run into problems, though. If you happen to have issues, a third party software, should help out in this area.

DLL Errors – This is a very troublesome error because it sucks to be missing files after literally just downloading all of them. Don’t panic though, you can fix this. You need to locate the missing files (specified in the error) and insert them. If you cannot locate them, there are several fixes for DLL errors that you can run through. Just take your time and follow the instructions.

Game Freezing a Bit or Slowing Down During Alien Activity – This is most common with the Codex enemy’s turn. Simply hit Escape to bring up the main menu and resume the game. You should be fine and it’ll speed it all up.

Changing Resolution – You can do this by changing a file within the game. Make sure to backup the file before you start inputting numbers just in case you need to restore the original after something goes wrong. Go to C:\Users\username\Documents\My Games\XCOM2\XComGame\Config (if you installed the game to a different drive just change the drive at the beginning). Now search for and change the values for ResX and ResY to what you want.
