There is no easy way to say this… our mighty, noble friend Lemmy passed away today after a short battle with an extremely aggressive cancer. He had learnt of the disease on December 26th, and was at home, sitting in front of his favorite video game from The Rainbow which had recently made its way down the street, with his family.

Motorhead is known for being one of the purest rock ‘n’ roll bands there ever was, as well as for their famous tracks such as Ace of Spades, Overkill and No Class. The band started back in 1975, and Lemmy was the group’s only consistent member.

Lemmy also appeared in Double Fine’s video game Brutal Legend back in 2009. He voiced the character of Kill Master who, along with being a bassist, also served as the team’s healer. Over on Twitter, Double Fine shared the following image with the message “Rest in Peace Lemmy.”

While most players know that Lemmy was in Brutal Legend, he also stared in Motorhead’s very own beat-em-up title for the Atari ST and Amiga in 1992 called ‘Motorhead’. This game saw players playing as Lemmy as they fought through 6 music-themed levels to save the rest of band from what the manual called “a local guerrilla army of unknown quantity.” Along with beating up enemies with fists, players can use magic to either summon groupies or the Motorhead logo, or to just kill everyone on screen.

Ian ‘Lemmy’ Kilmister will always be a legend of Rock and will be remembered by both his family and fans. Do you have any fond memories that you’d like to share? If so, we’d love to hear them in the comments below.
