5 New Characters We Can’t Wait to Meet in 2016

Hello, fresh meat!

Horizon Zero Dawn, Aloy characters

Yooka & Laylee in Yooka-Laylee

We first laid our eyes on this pair of colorful creatures when it was announced that Playtonic Games, a studio made up of developers who worked on games such as Banjo-Kazooie, Viva Pinata, and Donkey Kong titles, were hoping to get their game funded through Kickstarter.

Never had anyone imagined a bat and a chameleon could be best friends, but nevertheless, gamers were intrigued, handing over $3.25 million to see the pair come to life. Although Ratchet & Clank are making a comeback in 2016, there’s always room for more dynamic duos, especially new ones! We helped you two get your start; now don’t let us down!

Trico in The Last Guardian

PlayStation gamers have been waiting for an adventure with Trico since June of 2009, and in 2016 they’ll finally get it. Although, they still may not be entirely sure what he is.

This bird, dog, goat, cat mix has shown us that he’ll be a friendly companion on our journey, a big help when we need him most, and a key to success along the way. What makes him the most appealing is that although he may not be human, he still has feelings and a need to be nurtured and cared for. Despite the fact that he’ll be much larger and more agile than us, just as much as we need him when times are tough, he’s going to need us to have his back, as well.

Sam in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

We’ve known Nathan Drake for so long, but never had we heard a peep about his brother, Sam, until 2014’s PlayStation Experience event. In the moment he was introduced, we’re not sure if it was more surprising he existed or that Nathan drew his gun out on another man and didn’t fire.

Either way Sam, it’s good to see you’re still alive, no longer in jail, and a fellow treasure hunter, as well. Nevertheless, even if you weren’t, you’re still a Drake, which makes you a welcome addition to the Uncharted family. Lead the way, older brother, we’ll be right behind you.

Aloy in Horizon: Zero Dawn

Aloy and the whole Horizon: Zero Dawn presentation surprised everyone this past E3. Guerrilla Games was no longer focused on a soldier killing Helghast, but instead on crafting a strong female protagonist of tribal humanity.

She has proven she is quick in combat, a stealthy assassin who knows her way around a bow, and that robot-dinosaurs are no match for her skills. We can’t wait to explore more environments of her homeland and the vast array of enemies she’ll have to face to reclaim the world that has since been taken from her people.

Yarny in Unravel

Yarny is different from all the other characters we’ve listed. He’s a small, soundless, single thread of yarn lost in a world much larger than himself. However, it’s nothing he won’t be able to handle!

Prepare to have your mind tested as you try to use Yarny’s body to interact with the environment, swing to and from hard to reach platforms, scale new heights, and hopefully have enough of yourself left over to remain standing! Unravel will put Yarny in a heartfelt story about an attempt to reconnect memories of a long-lost family, a tale we’re sure will be worthy of telling.
